Welcome to the Neighbourhood!

Calgary is home to 198 distinct neighbourhoods. As a Calgary Realtor, one of the great pleasures of my job is acting as neighbourhood tour guide for inquisitive homebuyers – introducing them to the richness and diversity that our wonderful network of communities has to offer.
Once I meet with a new client and get a feel for what they are looking for, my job is to match them with not only the right home, but the right neighbourhood. It is crucial to find a home in the right neighbourhood because the allure of a nice home in the wrong neighbourhood will fade quickly after moving in. One of the most valuable services I can officer my clients is to introduce them to a neighbourhood that may not have been on their wish list, but may end up being the perfect fit for them.

Calgary has so many good neighbourhoods reflecting the cultural, social and economic diversity of our city, that the challenge often lies in whittling down the long list of possibilities. Price point is, of course, an important determining factor, but today’s buyers are driven by a number of other factors in targeting neighbourhoods for their home search. It is not enough to be able to afford to move into a certain neighbourhood. Buyers need to know that the community they choose offers the lifestyle amenities that make the home not only affordable, but livable.
This is where the fun comes in and I get to play tour guide – introducing clients to the local schools, community hubs, parks, playgrounds, shopping districts and restaurants. Walkability and access to transportation are important variables for many of my clients. Some require a local dog park while others are more interested in the variety of restaurants and cafes. While the amenity wish list is a vital element in choosing a neighbourhood, it is also important that the neighbourhood just feels right. It has to feel like home.
MLS listings can only tell you so much about a community. If my clients are not already familiar with a community, I urge them to spend some time walking around, taking in the scenery and chatting with the local residents. As your Calgary tour guide, I am happy to lead the way.
