It's Camping Season
With all the obligations that go along with busy family life, we truly appreciate spending time together when we take a break from work and the kids are off of school. The summer holidays are the perfect time to pack up the car and head out to one of our favorite campgrounds to enjoy the outdoors.
My family and I love to go camping in the summer. One of our most frequent destinations is Kimberly Riverside Campground, located on the St Mary River near Kimberly, BC. Although it requires nearly five hours to get there, it's one of our favorite places to bring the kids to because of the beautiful surrounding area. They have a swimming pool and an 18-hole mini put course. Another fun attraction nearby is the Platzl. It is a pedestrian-only outdoor shopping centre located in town. They have great restaurants and unique shops and this area is home to the world's largest cuckoo clock.
When we are looking for a destination a little closer to home, we head out to Aspen Crossing. This area has a rich railroad history and they have kept the tradition alive by converting an old train dining car into a restaurant. The car was built in 1887 and was actually used by John Diefenbaker as his campaign office in 1962 when he became the 13th Prime Minister of Canada. This area is only about an hour away from Calgary and is a fun get-away place to see something different.
One of the best things about living in Calgary is that there is no shortage of great places nearby to go camping and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you are looking to rough it for a weekend in the mountains, or simply get out of the city for a day to enjoy a picnic, the landscape never fails to impress.
