If You Love Lakes, You Will Love Southeast Calgary Real Estate
Do you dream of living by the lake? If you do, then you’ll love Southeast Calgary real estate because seven of Calgary’s nine lake communities are in this area! I’m living that dream with my family and we’re loving every minute of it. And I’m happy that many other families are fulfilling their fantasy, as the lake community of Auburn Bay in this quadrant is the second fastest-growing community population-wise in all of Calgary!
The Lake Communities of Southeast Calgary
The main attraction of the new community of Auburn Bay is its 43-acre freshwater lake where people can swim, go boating and fish during the summer, and skate and enjoy other ice sports in the winter. The six other lake communities in this quadrant are Chaparral, Lake Bonavista, Mahogany, McKenzie Lake, Midnapore and Sundance. The popularity of these lake communities, where you can commune with nature and raise happy, well-balanced children, is driving the development of modern amenities for an overall high quality of life.
Lots of Greens
But it’s not only the lakes that are a big draw in Southeast Calgary – it’s also the parks! Three of the eight fastest-growing communities in Calgary are in this area -- Cranston, New Brighton and Copperfield – and they’re blessed with lots of life-giving green space. The best of the parks is Fish Creek Park, one of the largest in North America, stretching from east to west of the city. Here, you can just walk on paved and unpaved pedestrian and bicycle trails, have a picnic, camp, ride a horse, swim in the lake, and watch out for deer, coyote, owl, beaver and other wildlife.
Growing, and growing fast!
A 2010 Calgary census has named Southeast Calgary one of the fastest growing quadrants in the city, driven by in-migration. Its growth is evidenced by its vast shopping centers, including Deerfoot Meadows and the shops on 130th Ave. Although downtown is close by, many residents seldom find the need to drive out there to get what they need. All they have to do is walk around the neighborhood and they can get some groceries—and maybe grab a cup of coffee along the way. There is a wide selection of restaurants and establishments where you can have fun and enjoy great food.
