Maintenance tips for your concrete

Maintenance tips for your concrete

Regular home maintenance can help preserve the value of your home. Taking good care of your property can reduce damage and the need for costly repairs. Extend the life of your concrete driveway, patio and walkways with these maintenance tips:

Pressure wash your concrete.

Simply washing your concrete can help extend its lifespan. How? It ensures your paying regular attention to the state of the concrete. Concrete that is dirty and/covered in moss can deteriorate over time. Washing away winter’s gravel and road salt, dirt and grime can help prevent damage. After you pressure wash your Calgary concrete, be sure to reseal it.

Seal your concrete.

Concrete sealant and instructions can be provided by concrete companies in Calgary. You can also find these products at a building supply store. Just be sure to follow manufacturer’s instructions. Resealing the concrete will protect the surface from the harmful natural elements. It will keep the colours in your stained or stamped concrete looking bright and vibrant. Concrete sealing can increase the lifespan of your driveway and make regular cleaning easier. The best times to seal your driveway is in the early spring and in the late fall.

Get cracks repaired.

Little cracks can turn into big cracks before you know it. Water can seep into those cracks and when that water freezes, it will cause the crack to expand. Unfortunately, cracking concrete is something we just must live with here in Alberta, but we can prevent major damage. Learn how to DIY concrete crack repair or call concrete contractors to do the job for you. Getting on top of those small cracks can prevent expensive repairs down the road.

Raise sinking concrete.

If your concrete is sinking, you can have it repaired easily and affordably. Concrete lifting companies can drill tiny holes in the problem area. Then they inject a polyurethane foam beneath the sinking slab to fill the void between the concrete and the ground. Professional concrete lifters can make your concrete driveway, walkway and steps completely level again at a fraction of the cost of a replacement.

Why bother?

Maintaining your concrete will maintain your curb appeal. Curb appeal plays a major role in your home’s resale value, actual and perceived. When your home’s exterior look good, it shows better. This is very important if you are putting it up for sale on the real estate market.

Cracked and damaged concrete can also be a safety issue. It can cause someone to trip and fall, especially if it is starting to sink.

Finally, maintaining your concrete will help you avoid future expenses. Preventative maintenance is key to keeping a home and yard. Committing to regular home maintenance will prevent major damage or the need for more expensive repairs.
