Choosing the Right Neighbourhood for your Next Home
Choosing a neighbourhood is almost more difficult than choosing a new home. Particularly if you are moving to Calgary from another city, you're going to need some extra help selecting the right area to suit your long term needs. Although this city has so much to offer, everyone has different priorities. Here are some important questions to consider when determining the best location for your next home:
Do you want a home with a view? Looking out your windows to a beautiful view is just one of the many perks of living near the Rockies. Many neighbourhoods around the city feature beautiful views of the mountains, the Bow River or the city skyline.
Do you need to be near the CTrain line? Efficient transit is important if you want the best of both worlds. Calgary's light rail transit line now services 44 stations around the city and extends as far north as Crowfoot and Saddletown and as far south as Somerset-Bridlewood.
Need to be near the airport? Frequent flyers enjoy the convenience of being close to home after a long flight. Several neighbourhoods including Huntington Hills and Panorama are situated within a short distance from Calgary International Airport.
Do you want to be part of a smaller community? Many of the neighbourhoods within Calgary operate as unique independent communities. They have their own organized board of directors and facilitate events to bring their communities together. Just because you are living in a big city doesn't mean that you can't enjoy a sense of community.
How important is the quality of the nearby schools? If you are raising a family, good education is obviously a priority. According to the Fraser Institute, Webber Academy, Clear Water Academy and Master's Academy are the best elementary schools in Calgary.
Are you looking for a neighbourhood where you will be near friends and family? They say that home is where the heart is, so being close to the people that matter the most to you is sure to make you feel right at home.
Do you want that out-of-town experience and still be close to home? Residents of Auburn Bay, Mahogany and Mckenzie Lake, among other lake communities in the city, have exclusive access to a man-made lake and state-of-the-art recreation area that will give you just that. Boating, swimming, toboganning and paddleboarding are just some of the activities that can be enjoyed there. For the sports enthusiasts, tennis, beach volleyball, ice skating and ice hockey are also made available. Of course, fishing, barbecuing and the park are at everyone's dispense should they opt to go for something more relaxing.
